A thesis statement is the essential message or point of a written paper or project. Most often a thesis statement is one or two sentences in the opening paragraph of your paper that describes the point of your paper or what you hope to prove or describe.
For example, your thesis statement could be something like “Global warming is a serious threat to human civilization and should be addressed by world governments” then you would spend the rest of the paper explaining What global warming is, Why it is a threat, and What should be done about it.
